For the next week or so, this will be a ~ daily, scrappy, and as I remember it. Intended to be like getting a text from someone you know. At the end of the week I’ll upload a voice recording of the set.

Thursday
I ate a piece of ginger cake at 6am, then three scrambled eggs on naan for breakfast. It was very hot and I was out walking for hours. I got home and had raw tomatoes with some leftover grilled aubergine and rosemary/garlicky butterbean purée. At the centre of the day, a coffee and a bath. Later, once it was dark, I drunk a lot of water, swigged out of a tall glass bottle while sitting on the floor, and had a pizza from Dario’s in Shawlands with some vegan aioli.
Friday
There are too many eggs in the house, because I bought lots for cake-making on my birthday, forgetting that it needed to be vegan, so: today eggs again. Eaten with long cherry tomatoes halved lengthways, moved about a bowl with some ground roasted cumin, some salt. Pepper. At my feet, Bonnie had some almond butter puzzled out of the egg box.
We lay in that narrow slick of a park in the sun. I put on sun block. For lunch, the pizza leftovers, warmed under the grill. Another coffee after? The heat was excessive, and I had an uncomfortable nap.
A walk. A glass of wine, a walk slowly slowly around the block, then an attempt to cook. The evening was lulling but windy, I added a layer each successive time I left the house. Socks, a shirt. While we were out Bonnie went for the same stuff, the morning rolls left out for the birds, a yellow ice-cream cone, lots of bits of something that were covered in wasps. They got some of them.
Home, they barked. I grilled some aubergine, but didn’t get a chance to eat it. I broke up feta and set it against a warmed flatbread under the grill, with oil, with za’atar. I fried butterbeans with cumin, and added maple syrup, lemon juice, to the end of a jar of tahini to make a kind of dressing. Some raw toms and cucumber, some yogurt too. I ate it on the floor. Bonnie had cucumbers and a few segments of the tomato.
