Monday
Crumpets with honey, nigella, unsalted butter.
Another crumpet with feta and balsamic vinegar before going out the door.
A spray of elderberries picked in Shawlands, eaten while walking. Cooked carrot, and later chicken training treats for Bon.
Ginger cake warmed in the grill with unsalted butter, famished upon getting back.
Frozen Itsu Gyoza with a dipping sauce, fried. Okay. Soaked some green lentils for dinner.
Cooked the lentils just with a little salt, and then drained off the cooking broth while still hot. A liquid dinner: this green stock in a glass, a spoon of miso added, alongside a glass of pinky aldi rosé.
Tuesday
Crumpets with olive oil and the liquid off the top of a jar of raspberry jam. Coffee: a oaty moka and a cafetière.
Lunch: the lentils, cold, with some pepper, vegan aioli and wasabi sriracha on top. This in small quantities, a few times over.
An afternoon snack of bran flakes (Sainsbury’s own, too small) and yogurt. This is something we used to eat as a snack while watching films as children — very wholesome and very good. Best with larger Bran Flakes and with Total Greek Yogurt. Bonnie had a couple of scarpered Trebor Extra Strong Mints from the floor by the picnic tables, and they got a few bran flakes too.
Ate a kitkat on the walk to the shop in the evening, so I’d not be shopping or cooking hungry. It didn’t work.
Bought naan from the shop, some aubergine, parsley, oyster mushrooms, some fruit.
Half a nectarine, sliced with lemon juice, honey, sumac, and left to sit on the counter while cooking, for a kind of dessert.
Grilled the aubergine. Mixed ghee with some finely grated garlic, some nigella seeds, and slathered on halves of naan. Ate one half while waiting on the aubergine, with yogurt.
Dinner: (salty) grilled aubergine, cold lentils with parsley, nigella garlic naan bread.
