Friday:
A quick start was in order today, so I called upon the breakfast of champions: two Weetabix, one banana, and a coffee. Efficient, reliable, consistent. There is nothing that cannot be achieved on the basis of this trifecta.
I remained out most of the day, rehearsing with a friend ahead of joining their band for some shows in the near future. On my return I realised I had nothing at home except half of a large potato, and in the cold evening air that was invitation enough to grab some Linda McCartney pies from the local shop and fantasise about buttery mashed potatoes and gravy for the rest of the walk home. Pure starchy bliss.
I had dinner pretty early, and around 9pm I got that very specific kind of hunger that creeps up in the late evening. The kind that is often driven by a singular craving, and nothing else will do to satisfy it. In my case, this craving was for grilled cheese. The last time I made one was at least a year and a half ago, truly a uni staple, but I wanted to make it special so I picked up some nice cheese from the shop, made a compound butter with garlic and pesto to coat the outer edges of the bread, and patiently waited as the bread crisped and the cheese started to ooze and brown on the edges of the sandwich. It never made it to a plate after taking a rushed photo, and burnt taste buds never felt so good.
